With the variety of different types of Photo Booth available for hiring it is important to ask the right questions when choosing which one to hire. Here we outline the top 5 questions, outside of the usual “how much is it?” or “how long can we have it for?” etc, that you should ask your photo booth supplier. We also provide some guidance on some of the answers you should be looking for.
1. What is the picture quality?
Part of the experience of your photobooth will be the photos that you are your guests get to keep as a memento of your event. You therefore want them to be of the highest quality. Make sure that your photo booth supplier provides a booth with a quality digital SLR camera that is also able to shoot HD video.
When it comes to the actual quality of the prints – the use of a standard ink jet will just not cut it. You need to be ensuring where ever you are hiring a photo booth from, provide a booth that includes a dye-sublimation (dye-sub) printer . The dye-sub printers produce photos that more like traditionally printed photos and are also immediately dry to the touch so can be handled as soon as they come out of the printer.
2. What format are the pictures?
With this question you are essentially looking for a choice of options. Some photo booth operators will only give you the one option of a strip of 4 small images. Ideally you should be looking at being able to offer your guests the choice of a single large print i.e. 4” x 6” or 4 smaller individual prints. You should also ask if your guests are able to choose from the touch screen in the both the format of the print(s) they will get, rather than it having to be set up before hand by the booth attendant or suppliers.
3. Is it unlimited prints during the hire of your photo booth?
Again you want to ensure your guests are happy and well catered for by the company from whom you hire a photo booth. Some companies will actually restrict the number of prints you and your guests receive during the period you have the booth. Make sure you hire a booth that comes with unlimited prints during the period.
4. Do my guests get one picture and me as the host get a copy for a guest book?
During your event you will likely be mingling and chatting with your guests and will not get to spend as much time as you might like in the photo booth (they can be very addictive!). Ideally you will want your guests to be able to take their photos away with them as a keepsake and memento of the event as well as having a copy yourself. Ask your supplier if they provide a second set of prints that they can make up into a guest book during the event for your guests to add comments on – next to a copy of the photo they have taken. You will be glad you did.
5. Can the photos be uploaded to a website or Facebook to look at later?
Any good photo booth system will come with the option to load the images up to either a secure area on the suppliers website, direct to your Facebook account for you to share or tag at a later date or both. What you need to ask your supplier is whether through the touch screen software they provide your guests with the option to choose if the photos are posted to Facebook or not. This is especially relevant if you are hiring a photo booth for either a corporate or celebrity event.
